JEWELRY AND TRADITION
"I believe that most of our behaviors are through studying majority of those around you and through peoples of tradition.  For them, wearing earrings is still part of a magical ritual that prevents malicious and sly spirits from penetrating the human body through the natural openings of the ears.  Attracted by something shiny, evil spirits prefer entering the rings’ holes rather than ears … until they get lost.  Perhaps by widening their earlobes, some tribes like the Dayaks of Borneo, create more chances for these evil spirits to get lost.  This probably holds true for nose rings as well."
As I’ve always thought in my mind, books are signs from the Universe and come to you in divine order.  Miss Lichiban and I had this conversation while prepping for our ‘Urduja’ shoot as I stare at her huge collection of books.  She tells me that the majority of the books she owned were books she found.  Majority of the books I own, are books I’ve found also, so I absolutely connected with her on that.  Meanwhile, a few days later, as I’m taking my daily stroll w/ my seed, whattta ya know??  I came across a STACK of 5…6…7 wonderful books.  One of them was this one titled, ‘Faces In The Smoke: An Eyewitness Experience of Voodoo, Shamanism, Psychic Healing, and Other Amazing Human Powers’ by Douchan Gersi.  I started reading it today and with the release of my collection set to drop tomorrow, everything that pertains to this collection have all connected and in some weird way, unfolded and caught my attention in this book.  Proof of evidence is with that excerpt I stole straight from the book.

Wonderful Italian lady I met while taking my daily walk with the seed; she caught my eye with these colorful, scrambled wire wrap earrings.  She also let me photograph them!

HALLOWEEN 2011

DIY Janet Wig

The idea came to me when I saw this hat similar to Janet’s in the movie.  It was like 2 bucks or sumthin’.  I didn’t even have to think twice of if I wanted to be her or not, I just found myself puttin’ everything together.  Got the Levi’s, got the blue shirt, got the hat, then… I had to figure out how I was going to pull the whole hair thing off.  I remember back in the day when I got my braids, them things cost me roughly around $150.  Being in the hood, I figured I’d get a deal.  Yea, the deal was — going to the 99 cents store, grabbing 5 packs of synthetic horse hair and playin’ around w/ it.  I got home, put on ‘The Best of Bob the Builder’ for the lil’ one to keep him occupied (lol), and yo, I went in on this weave!

First, I grabbed the amount of hair that I thought would be good enough for the thickness.  I then pinned it down in the middle with a safety pin, attached it to a pillow, and braided it all the way down.  This keeps it in place while you braid.  5 hours later, each pack gave me 5 braids with a total of 25.  I then sewed the top end to the inside of the hat with black thread throughout the entire hat.  Probably took me 6 hours total.  I had to top my nails off with the classic logo used for the movie.  This was one of the funnest costumes to put together for me.  I went to the city; maaan, all over the train and in Soho, ppl was screamin’ out, “Ahhh POETIC JUSTICE! She’s Janet and He Tupac!”  Ha.  My fiance and I kept givin’ ea other daps like, ‘they know who we are!’

Hope y’all enjoyed your holiday and didn’t O.D. on them candies.
